While on holiday in Florida, Verisure customer Jamie Cutts received an unexpected call from the Verisure Alarm Receiving Centre to inform him that his home in Pudsey had been broken into.
During the call, Jamie was informed that an intruder had entered the property. Despite being thousands of miles away, Verisure’s monitoring agents acted immediately, alerting the police and activating ZeroVision. Within moments, the intruder fled empty-handed, helping to minimise potential loss and damage.
In the interview below, Jamie shares what happened, how the situation was handled, and what it felt like to have his home protected and supported remotely during such a critical moment.
Can you describe what happened and where you were when you received the call from Verisure?
We were on holiday in Florida when I received a call at approximately 7:30pm local time (12:30am UK time) from the Verisure Monitoring Centre, informing us that our Verisure alarm had been triggered and that a person wearing a hoodie had been seen walking through our kitchen and heading upstairs.
The agent asked, “Is that you?” I quickly explained that we were on holiday and it definitely was not us. The agent then asked for permission to contact the police and deploy the ZeroVision system. I immediately granted permission, and the agent confirmed he would take both actions and call me back with an update.
Despite being over 4,000 miles away on holiday, Jamie was immediately informed of the intrusion and able to authorise police contact and ZeroVision deployment within moments of the break-in being detected.
What was going through your mind when you realised someone had broken into your home while you were away?
Lots of emotions – apprehension, disappointment and nervousness. There was also a sense of helplessness from being so far away and wanting to know exactly what was happening back home.
How did Verisure respond to the situation once the intruder was detected?
Verisure’s response was highly efficient and professional. It was our first experience of something like this, but the monitoring agent was clear, reassuring and completely in control throughout. They managed the situation from start to finish and ensured it was resolved as quickly as possible.

What was your reaction when you learned that ZeroVision had been activated and the intruder fled the property?
Initially, it was a huge relief. However, at that stage we still didn't know the extent of any damage or whether anything had been stolen, so there was still some uncertainty.
Once ZeroVision was activated, the intruder fled the property without taking anything, helping to dramatically reduce the potential impact of the break-in.
What could have been taken if Verisure had not been in place?
It's something I don't really want to think about. Valuables, cars and sentimental possessions could all have been taken if we didn't have the Verisure system and the quick response from the monitoring agent.
Thankfully, nothing was stolen due to the effectiveness of the monitored alarm system and the immediate activation of ZeroVision. Some damage was caused when the intruder gained entry, but it was minimal compared to the potential losses we could have suffered without Verisure protection.

How would you describe your contact with Verisure?

After the incident, Verisure remained in regular contact, providing updates, helping reset the alarm system and liaising with the police to share footage captured by the system. Throughout the entire process, we were proactively kept informed and never had to chase for information. Everything was simply taken care of.
If you could say something to the monitoring agent who protected your property, what would it be?
The system and the people behind it were absolutely amazing. Not only during the incident itself, but afterwards too, helping to restore the ZeroVision and alarm system just hours later.

I can say with complete confidence that I trust Verisure. They do exactly what they promise. Going through a break-in is never easy, but knowing that my home was monitored, protected and supported throughout gives me confidence that I am as protected as possible should anything ever happen again.
