Why You Should Always Use Your Home Alarm System

Why Arming Your Security System Regularly Is So Important

Now that you’ve protected your home with some security measures, whether that’s a Verisure home security system or some combination of DIY measures or traditional bell-only alarms, it’s really important to keep it active!

Life is busy – and it’s easy to rush and think you’re not out of the house for long – let’s just leave the alarm off. Or that there’s always somebody in the house – does it need to be on?

But there are a number of important reasons that you should always use the alarms you’ve put in place!

Preventing Intrusions

More than likely the reason you had some security measures put in place is that you were concerned about intrusions onto your property, or becoming the victim of a burglary.

Simply put – one of your best defences against this happening is to keep your alarm on!

Most security systems have modes for both when you’re at home and when you’re not – so using the right mode is important. Let’s take the available modes on Verisure’s alarm as an example:

ModeFunctionUseful When

Total Mode

All sensors are on and the alarm will be activated when any sensor is triggered.

The house will be left empty.

Partial Mode

Some sensors are on and the alarm will be activated when specific sensors are triggered.

You go to bed or just want to monitor external doors, while being able to move around inside.

Disarmed

All sensors are off and the alarm will not be activated by any sensor – however – you can still use SOS functions and power-cut detection and tampering checks are still active.

The house is occupied at all times and there may be people coming in and out.

With a Verisure alarm, you can change modes through your SVK panel, remote control or Verisure App on your phone or other smart device.

Most alarm systems have a partial mode of some sort which can be configured to match your needs.

As the table above shows – whether you’re in the house or not – there are still ways in which your alarm can help protect your property.

We’d never recommend leaving your property with the alarm Disarmed, but even if you forget to activate it – just tap the Total or Partial mode buttons in the Verisure App from your phone to activate your alarm from anywhere!

Identifying Maintenance Issues

Verisure Keep Your Alarm Maintained

Another crucial element of keeping your alarm active on a regular basis is that it helps to identify any issues within the system that might prevent it working properly when you really need the alarm active.

If you haven’t armed the alarm for 3 months, then you go on holiday for 2 weeks and realise there’s an issue with one of the sensors the day before you leave – you’re not giving yourself much chance to repair the problem before you leave the house empty for an extended period.

By regularly activating and using your alarm you’ll pick up on any issues quickly and give yourself a chance to have any repairs or maintenance work done quickly.

With Verisure’s service, all your maintenance and repairs are included in your monthly fee – so we’ll always be on hand to ensure your system is providing the highest level of protection possible.

Fire and Medical Emergencies

Another important element of using your home security system is to take advantage of the other features it might offer.

Verisure’s monitored alarm can also step up in other emergency situations, like a fire in your home, or a medical emergency.

Again, if the alarm isn’t maintained, or is always off, you might be losing some of the protection that could be offered in these scenarios.

Conclusion

Hopefully this has clarified why it’s so important to use that alarm you pay for!

While it’s easy to fall into a routine of not activating your alarm – you’re missing out on valuable protection that could make a huge difference in a difficult situation.
