What is a Monitored Alarm?

A monitored alarm is an alarm system that is connected to a remote monitoring service where professionals receive the alerts from the alarm system, in addition to the alarm owner.

An unmonitored alarm is designed to alert the alarm owner. If you're not there to receive the alert, or you're not in a position to take action, the alarm can't do it for you!

How do monitored burglar alarm systems work?

A monitored alarm generally works by using a variety of sensors to detect when something is happening at your home when you've set the alarm. A monitored alarm will then pass on these signals to trained professionals, as well as the alarm owner. With Verisure, these professionals can take action on your behalf to protect your home.

01

Deterrent Signs Warn Intruders

You can have multiple signs and stickers to let people know your home is protected. This is the first layer of protection that could make a potential intruder look the other way.

02

Sensors Detect Break-In or Tampering

Our shock sensors detect vibrations and shocks before they’ve got access - and can trigger the alarm if the door or window is opened when your alarm is set.

03

Secure Alarm Trigger Sent to ARC

A secure alarm signal is sent to our 24/7 Alarm Receiving Centre. Verisure's central unit has 4G and Battery backup - so alarm triggers can still get through even without Wi-Fi or mains power.

04

Professional Alarm Verification

Trained professionals use two-way audio, images from cameras and sensor data to verify if this is a false alarm or not. If it's an emergency, they take action.

05

Owner and Emergency Contact Notification

We let you or your emergency contacts know what's happening - and ensure that there is no chance of a false alarm. If we can't contact you - we use our expertise to decide the action to take.

06

ARC Agent Intervenes

Now our ARC agents can take action, activating ZeroVision to rapidly reduce the intruders visibility and calling the police or fire brigade. They can also send a private security guard to your home to verify what's happening.

Frequently Asked Questions about Alarm Monitoring

Some of the most common queries about alarm monitoring services are listed below:

Some monitored alarms have direct contact with the police. However - as per the NSI (National Security Inspectorate):

"Immediate response will be withdrawn following three false alarm calls in a rolling twelve-month period."

Verisure alarms are not NSI certified and do not call the police automatically.

Instead, our ARC reduces false alarms at source by verifying the alarm before alerting the emergency services.

The response time of an alarm monitoring centre is dependent on the centre itself and sometimes the service you've signed up for. Verisure's alarm receiving centre has an average response time of 45 seconds.

If you miss the monitoring centre's call - the professionals in our Alarm Receiving Centre may also try to contact an authorised person who you've added to your account. However - they will continue with their protocols to protect your home whether you can be reached by phone or not. This may include activating ZeroVision, calling the police or dispatching a security guard.

Some monitoring systems have protections in place to ensure that alarm triggers can still reach the monitoring centre even when power is down or there is disruption to the internet connection. Verisure's central unit has a battery backup, to ensure it keeps operating if the power drops and a cellular backup connection in case Wi-Fi is unavailable.

Most alarms will have some functionality that helps reduce the number of alarm triggers caused by your pet. Verisure's system can be tailored to the pets in your property to minimise the number of false alarms. Start a quote today and our local security experts can give you the best advice on how to keep your propety secure while allowing your pet the space to roam.

Not always - some monitored alarms just use infrared sensors to detect movement. Verisure however can offer a wealth of sensors to give your home the protection it deserves, including HD security cameras, shock sensors, photodetectors and more.

It can - but it doesn't always. It differs from insurer to insurer. Always check with your home or small business insurance provider to see if a monitored alarm would affect your premiums or your coverage.

Yes - most monitored alarm systems require a monthly contract. Verisure will provide a tailored quote that covers monitoring, maintenance and ongoign support. The local security expert who visits your home will assess the needs of your specific property, and your biggest concerns, before providing a quote for professional installation and monthly monitoring fee.

With Verisure - we take data protection seriously. All still images, video and audio files recorded by your cameras will be stored in secure cloud servers. In case of an alarm event, Verisure will only have access to recorded video and audio in the Cloud dating back to 20 seconds prior to the alarm event and a maximum of 40 seconds of live video. We will not have access to any recorded files outside of an alarm event. For more information, please see our Camera Privacy page.
