Smart Alarm System

What is a smart lock?

A smart lock is an electronic lock that works without physical keys; instead, it can grant access to and lock your property through alternative methods such as a smartphone app, a voice command or a code.

They are great for rental properties, Airbnbs, or homes with multiple occupants as they allow you to change the access combination, or to add and remove guests on a regular basis without having to change the whole lock.

Depending on the model you choose, a smart lock can replace your whole lock, including the latch and handle, or replace the deadbolt only. The Verisure LockGuard Smart Lock is compatible with Euro Cylinder locks, and a professional installer will come to remove the old cylinder, install mounting plates and spacers to replace it with LockGuard.

These smart devices work by connecting wirelessly to your smart phone or other smart devices via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, which means you can lock and unlock it remotely through a smartphone app.

Some smart lock models allow different types of unlocking methods such as a keypad to enter a PIN code, a sensor for key fobs, or biometric access which recognises your fingerprints, palm, your face or your voice. LockGuard can be unlocked using a security code, a fob, or the Verisure smartphone app.

While you can get a hardwired lock, most smart locks are battery-powered, which means they work even during a power outage. The batteries will need to be changed or recharged every few months, and many models have some kind of manual backup to avoid getting locked out when the battery is dead.

Aside from keyless entry, some smart locks come with advanced security features for added peace of mind. Verisure’s LockGuard, for instance, has an anti-picking cylinder and an auto-locking feature to further protect your front door. Installed as part of the Verisure Alarm System, LockGuard can also detect tampering attempts and can send details of attempted intrusions to the Verisure Alarm Receiving Centre.
