Smart Locks

How much does a smart lock cost?

A smart lock can set you back anywhere from £90 to several hundreds of pounds. The cost of a smart lock depends on various factors, including:

  • The type of lock you choose. More basic smart locks that run with a keypad and PIN code or through Bluetooth tend to be cheaper than those who run on biometrics (think fingerprint, face or voice recognition).
  • The brand you opt for. As with any home security device, the brand will have an impact on the price you pay. Established companies such as Verisure, with a history of satisfied customers and industry accreditations, will likely command a higher price than less reliable ones.
  • The features your smart lock comes with. Choosing a smart lock that is Wi-Fi enabled and allows you to check its activity log (i.e., to find out when people locked and unlocked the door), a model that auto locks after a certain period of time or one that has an integrated camera will set you back more than a more basic one.
  • Whether your lock integrates with your smart home or not. Smart locks that integrate into your smart home ecosystem (think Amazon Alexa or Google Home) so you can set them on a timer or link them to your other smart devices may cost more than simple locks with no connectivity.

On top of the upfront cost of your smart lock, you may have to pay for it to be professionally installed. This will depend on the provider you opt for, and on the type of smart lock; a lock that replaces your entire door handle rather than just the deadbolt mechanism will likely need to be professionally installed, as it will need to be retrofitted into your door. Smart lock installation could cost you anywhere between £50 and £200.

Verisure offer a monitored smart lock - LockGuard - as part of their home alarm system. Not only will you get the benefits of a regular smart lock, but your home will also be protected by advanced home security technology, while alarm triggers are monitored by our SSAIB certificated Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) 24 hours a day, 365 days a year!
