Why should I have a panic button?
A panic button is a convenient personal or home security device that allows you to call for help quickly in case of an emergency. It is particularly useful for vulnerable users such as older people, if you live in high crime areas, or for those who need to be able to contact medical services at any time.
Panic buttons usually come in one of two formats: either as a small, discrete button to be installed anywhere in your home, or as a portable button or fob that you can carry around on your keys. Verisure home security systems come with a portable smart remote that features an SOS panic button.
These devices are designed to call for help quickly and without attracting attention, which can be important in case of a home intrusion, for example. They also let you reach emergency services with a simple click, which is great for older users or in-time sensitive situations such as a fire or break-in.
Depending on the panic button you choose, pressing it will either notify law enforcement or medical emergency services directly, or professionals contracted by your home security provider. Some buttons also send an alert to your chosen emergency contact(s).
If you have a Verisure SOS button, it sends a signal to Verisure’s 24/7 Alarm Receiving Centre, where a security professional will turn on a “silent listening mode” inside your home and use other devices in your system to assess the situation. Where appropriate, they will then dispatch a team of security guards or call the relevant emergency service.
