Q&A With Verisure Apprentices for Apprentice Week 2025

To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week - we're asking some of our own apprentices what they think of their career so far at Verisure and how an apprenticeship has helped them develop.

If you're interested in an apprenticeship at Verisure, please search our careers page for currently open apprenticeship vacancies - we're looking forward to hearing from you!

Dom Kimber

Q: Who are you, and what do you do?

A: I'm Dom Kimber, and I joined Verisure in 2019 as an apprentice, I'm now a Team Leader in our Contact Centre.

Q: What does this involve?

A: I manage a team of nine people who are phone-based and KPI-driven, organise training, review and analyse data, and send out team and individual statistics.

Q: What have you learnt in your journey so far?

A: Starting Verisure at such a young age was great as it allowed me to learn how a business runs with a completely fresh mind. I started off strong with timekeeping, organisation, and presentation.

Verisure allowed me to develop as a person and professionally. For example, I first learned how to look after myself, and then I transitioned to looking after others.

I've always been a people person, and I used to work in a bar. But I think if I joined a business like Verisure later in life, I wouldn't have had the same role models. My previous managers have shaped my managerial style, and I'm so appreciative of that.

Q: What has been your most valuable experience at Verisure?

A: Verisure's DNA (core values) challenges you and encourages you to be better. They give you structure and remind you that being innovative is encouraged.

Q: What advice would you give someone considering an apprenticeship?

A: Just do it; a valid option, and it's a great chance to learn and develop. You don't need to be young, it's a great way to develop your skills and it allows you to be ambitious.

Eden Gray

Q: Who are you, and what do you do?

A: I'm Eden Gray and I work in the Quality and Control team.

Q: What have you learnt during your apprenticeship so far?

A: This has been a brand-new experience for me and has allowed me to learn new responsibilities that I would never have learned in other industries. At school, you're treated like a child, but on an apprenticeship, I'm treated like an adult, which has helped my confidence in many areas, both personally and professionally.

I have been able to work on my computer skills, and I interact with people whom I would never normally cross paths with, and I love meeting new people.

Q: What makes your role enjoyable?

A: All of the support I get. Coming into work and knowing that there is always someone who is on hand to help and has my back and pushes me to develop myself. My Team Leader started off as an apprentice herself, so the support she gives me is invaluable.

Q: What advice would you give someone considering an apprenticeship?

A: An apprenticeship is a wonderful way to build skills and knowledge with on-the-job training. If I had gone to college or university, I wouldn't have been able to get on-the-job training and learn the life skills I have. It's a great bridge, which prepares you for the real world. So my advice would be – do it!

Keira Wakelam

Q: Who are you and what do you do?

A: I'm Keira Wakelam and I work in the Quality and Control team.

Q: What does your role involve?

A: When I arrive at work, I catch-up on emails and calls and set myself up for the day ahead. I analyse data, carry out surveys with customers to ask about their day and experience, and listen to the Alarm Receiving Centre calls to carry out call audits.

Q: What have you learned during your apprenticeship so far?

A: So far, I have learned customer service skills and improved my communication skills. I've never been in an environment like this before, and it's helped me understand what it means to be professional. I'm more confident now compared to when I started.

Q: What advice would you give someone considering an apprenticeship?

A: Jump at the opportunity. You gain the skills and knowledge to set you up for any job in the future.
